H.E. Ban Ki-moon served as the 8th Secretary General of the United Nations from 2007 to 2016, leading the organisation through some of the most complex global challenges of the 21st century. His tenure is marked by the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Paris Climate Agreement, and significant reforms in peacekeeping and humanitarian operations. Known for his diplomatic skill and ability to forge consensus among member states, he also championed global health initiatives, most notably establishing the United Nations Mission for Ebola Emergency Response, the first-ever UN mission dedicated to combating a public health crisis.
H.E. Dr. Tariq Al Gurg, Vice Chairman of Dubai Cares, heads one of the most impactful global philanthropic entities focused on education, with initiatives spanning 57 countries. Since joining Dubai Cares in 2009, he has redefined its strategic direction to align with the UN SDGs, particularly SDG 4 on quality education. He has worked closely with heads of state, international organisations, and policy makers to embed education into climate, economic, and social agendas. His leadership in launching the RewirEd Summit has made Dubai Cares a central player in shaping the future of learning systems.
